Gardeners Know All the Dirt -Mixed Media Tri-Fold Greenhouse

Hello friends!

I'm here sharing a birthday card I made for a friend: a tri-fold greenhouse card created with dies from Hero Arts and a fun oldie but goodie sentiment from Jane's Doodles. 

The main dies (the greenhouse, pots and greenery) all come from the April My Monthly Hero Kit (also available as the Superhero version with even more dies ). The little snail comes from the fun snail mail themed January Kit and the the May Superhero Kit with the large birthday die (third layer of my card) is also still available! 

I wanted to make a card using the older kits because I know many have of you missed out on the July Kit, it sold out in a heartbeat... So it might be fun to look at the older kits that are amazing to create with as well!

How to create the pots

I created my own metallic looking pots with red and orange cardstock along with gold card stock. After die cutting the pots I first smudged some black ink to them for "dirt"and then I rubbed gold and silver waxes on them with no specific plan or caution. I simply used my fingers. Final step was to take black water color to a brush and with almost a dry brush to add some black color on top of the wax. This worked very well, way better than my original inking! If you watch the video you'll clearly see the finish in the pots.

Greenery 

The greenery is cut from two shades of green card. After gluing it down I wasn't too happy with the look and ended up using a couple of green Copic markers for adding smudges and texture to the leaves to make them look more lively and to match the mixed media feel of the pots better. 

Die cutting tip!

The plant hanger in the card front and the birthday sentiment inside the card are cut from brown card stock that has tiny golden leaves printed on it. However, when used for intricate die cutting, you can't see the leaf pattern at all but just fun variety in the finish with some gold here and there. 

It's worth checking out your patterned papers and special card stocks and have a think how they might work for intricate die cuts!

New Post at Time Out!

Hello friends!

Our new challenge at Time Out is a very fun one. Because we go live on a Leap Day, we have chosen a fun photo with a frog for your inspiration! Do note though that you do not need to use a frog for the challenge -you can be inspired by the colors, shapes, patterns of the photo or just see where the photo leads you! We look forward seeing your creative takes! Lots of DT inspiration and all the challenge details HERE. This time Vicki joins us as guest designer and you do not want to miss her fun and playful card! 

The butterfly dies in my card come from our sponsor Lawn Fawn. I used sparkly, mirror type speciality card for cutting the details for the wings, thinking about the colors and textures of the photo. The background was inspired by "bubbles" on the the black platform the frog is sitting on -I used a Jane's Doodles stencil and clear sparkly embossing powder for creating it. The sentiment is a ready made sentiment strip from a local store.

Before I go I unfortunately need to let you all know that this is the last challenge where Gerrina will be part of our design team. Gerrina has created inspiration for Time Out for all of our existence, for 10 years... Which is quite an achievement and not something many crafters have done for one design team. We are truly grateful for Gerrina for all of her hard work and dedication. New Challenge at Time Out with Free Digital Image!

Hi friends!

We have our annual special challenge at Time Out where we want to acknowledge not only cancer but all chronic illnesses that affect us and/or our loved ones... Greetings of friendship and support are so important during such hard times of life.  

Our sponsor Jane's Doodles has generously donated a free digital image for us all to use. It's not mandatory to use the image for the challenge, but we'll love to see what you come up with if you decide to use it! Notice how these cute critters have ribbons on their chests? I decided to color my ribbons pink for breast cancer awareness. 

The sentiment stamps from Concord & 9th were perfect for showing support and standing by a friend in need. 

My card is very simple: I've printed out the digi, colored the image with Copics and stamped the sentiments. I cut a quick mask to ink a pink hill for my critters to stand on. Two die cut small hearts and gold splatters embellish the card.

New Challenge at Time Out!

I'm here with my DT post for Time Out where we are celebrating the World Book Day for the next fortnight!

"The enjoyment of reading books is celebrated on World Book Day on April 23 in over 100 countries, and  on the first Thursday in March in the UK. It’s a day to celebrate the privilege of being able to read, so head to the library or curl up on the couch and just be a bookworm!"

The Challenge runs from April 13th to April 26th.

In my card I've used Newton's Nook stamp set called Newton's Book Club along with stencils from Altenew, Jane's Doodles and Create a Smile. I wanted to create a sort of 80's inspired pattern that could appear in a sweatshirt or a hoodie... And I LOVE how this turned out! I want a print shirt like this now lol! I could have been working straight on a card base and could have made this into a one layer card, but I really like the added dimension from using fun foam under the focal point panel.

New Challenge at Inkspirational -I'm back! :)

Hi friends! 

I have fun news for you -I've rejoined the Inkspirational design team after a couple of years break! I look forward creating Inkspirational cards with Carol, Pia, Marlene and Julia. The first challenge of 2023 is New/Welcome. Do join us! All the challenge details and plenty of DT inspiration HERE.

In my card I've played with several products and made a little scene. Believe it or not (it's not maybe super obvious!) this is a "celebrate new home" card for a friend who looked for just the right house for a long long time! Hence the sentiment! :) Also the mushroom stamp (representing the new house!), by Jane's Doodles is new to me... So there's plenty of newness here! :) I've colored in the MFT elf and the mushroom with Copics. Background stencil and sentiment by Funky Fossil Designs. Hope you like and thank you for popping by! New Challenge at Time Out!

Happy New Year 2023!

We are beginning the year 2023 at Time Out with a fun, cute challenge -we challenge you to be Romantic. This is the first challenge where we have all of our new DT members joining us -head on over to the challenge blog for lots of DT inspiration and all the challenge details. 

In my card I've created a cutesy romantic scene with stamps by our sponsor Jane's Doodle's. Jane's Doodles is run by artist Jane Beljo and the store is located in Zagreb, Croatia. Their high quality stamps are made in UK and USA. Jane's Doodles ships worldwide with very reasonable shipping prices and also sells digital images. Sentiment stamp by Spellbinders, the maker of the die I've unfortunately forgotten and lost the original packaging. :) I've also used a little woodgrain stamp for the floor -by Prima if I remember right. Again no original packaging left, the stamp is years and years old! 

The scene is colored with Copics. I've added some white gel pen and paint splatters for additional interest.

The topic for the first challenge is April Showers bring May flowers and I chose the beautiful Hellebores image to color in for the challenge. New Challenge at Inkspirational!

Hi friends!

We have a fun, easy challenge for you at Inkspirational:

I decided to go with "birds fluttering" and chose to use a NBUS (never before used stuff) stamp by Jane Doodle's that I once won from Milka's I love Math Challenge (click HERE for her current math challenge). I love this funny owl and I think he looks even funnier with the goggly eyes I just HAD TO add. :) I colored him with Copics, winkofstellad him allover, and added white gel pen details. The sentiment is by SSS and the die is from MFT. This card turned out sort of masculine (well, the owl is glittery, but still...) but I think it's anyway going to one of my girlfriends in February when the rest of the world celebrate's Valentine's and we Finns celebrate the Friendship Day. :)
